Miracle in the Andes
Nando Parrado
In 1972, a Uruguayan rugby team’s flight crashed high in the Andes. Parrado was among the survivors, and this book is his account of the weeks that followed and the trek he made to find help.
Parrado focuses on what they actually did day to day: the decisions, the mistakes, the physical work of getting off the mountain. He does not smooth over the hard parts. I liked that it reads more like someone recounting what happened than trying to turn it into a lesson.
