I Escaped from Auschwitz

Rudolf Vrba was sent to Auschwitz as a teenager in 1942. In 1944 he escaped with fellow prisoner Alfred Wetzler and helped compile one of the first detailed reports on the camp to reach the outside world.

The escape is only part of the story. Vrba wanted the information to reach people who could act on it, and he explains that goal clearly throughout. The writing is direct and often uncomfortable. It is not an easy book, but it is an important one to understand.
